Gearing Up for Spring Sports Season With Chiropractic Treatment

Gearing Up for Spring Sports Season With Chiropractic Treatment

Spring is the perfect season to go out and involve yourself in sporting activities. Some ideal sports during this time include track and field, biking, swimming, golfing, and baseball. The best way to avoid injuries and ensure that you are in the best shape is to visit a chiropractor.

Some of the chiropractic treatments that prove helpful include:

Soft Tissue Chiropractic Prehab

Routine soft tissue tune-ups are like dental appointments. They help keep athletes at optimum functioning capacity. Chiropractors may employ one of several treatments to prepare you for sports activities. Among them is the Graston Technique®. It includes manual myofascial release and cupping therapy. Whatever method your chiropractor chooses to use depends on their diagnosis.

Stretching

Stretching is an ideal way of preparing your soft tissues for activities in the spring. You can engage in more dynamic and active stretches with your chiropractor’s guidance. These are different from conventional methods that involve holding a muscle in one position for a long time.

A common stretching technique with many chiropractors is the post-isometric relaxation treatment. It involves slightly stretching a muscle for a short while. Afterward, they apply a 10 to 15 percent contraction onto them for around 10 seconds.

They let the area relax for a while before exerting the same pressure again for 5 to 10 seconds. Your chiropractor repeats this exercise about 3 to 5 times. They do this until the range of motion is wholesome and where they can comfortably feel the stretch.

Chiropractic Eccentric Exercises

Most conventional workouts focus on concentric exercises. These involve shortening the muscle fibers as they contract. The eccentric exercise involves lengthening the same fibers while your muscles engage.

These chiropractic workouts effectively remedy tendinopathies like medical and lateral epicondylitis or Achilles tendon. It also prevents chronic inflammation from constant strain on your tendons by reducing muscle tension.

Foam Rolling

Foam rolling is beneficial when you do it intentionally and properly instead of going through the motions absentmindedly. The chiropractor may provide you with a foam-rolling plan to do at home on your own. They will intentionally and carefully guide you in performing the helpful techniques.

When doing this at home, begin with longer, subtle sweeps. Proceed step by step as you focus on various muscle sections. Chiropractors will advise you to avoid the temptation of diving into this exercise for quicker results. Doing this may result in an opposite effect from what you are trying to achieve.

Diet

Maintaining a healthy diet goes a long way in helping gear up for sports in the spring. Your chiropractor may restrict your regimen to only healthy foods. These may include plant-based meals containing optimal quantities of healthy fats, proteins, and carbohydrates. Avoid overeating in one session.

Instead, have small portions at regular intervals. It is preferable to do so 6 times a day. To restore stamina and control weight, eat or drink protein-rich foods. Maintaining this diet before and during spring helps keep your sporting performance at peak levels.
